 A Stroke Recovery Story

Since that day, our lives have been transformed. This documentary follows Jill’s extraordinary recovery journey—not just the physical aspects, but the internal, emotional, and deeply human process of reclaiming her identity in the wake of trauma.

As both her husband and a documentary filmmaker, the process of telling this story has been profoundly complex and beautiful. I’ve witnessed Jill face unimaginable physical limitations, cognitive shifts, and emotional struggles, and yet, day by day, she shows up with honesty, vulnerability, and quiet strength.

The film explores her path through right-sided weakness, chronic pain, aphasia, and memory challenges—but more than that, it captures her ongoing effort to understand who she is now. It’s a story of rediscovery, of resilience, and of the small but significant victories that come with healing from the inside out.

The documentary also reflects our shared grappling with how much of this deeply personal experience to share. There were many moments when I questioned whether documenting Jill’s pain and progress so openly was the right thing to do—for her, for our family, and for myself as a caregiver. But ultimately, we’ve decided to move forward with this project because we believe it can have a powerful effect on others.

There is very little content that honestly shows what families, partners, and survivors go through together on the long road of recovery. We hope this film offers a voice to those unspoken experiences—both the heartbreak and the hope—and becomes a meaningful resource for other caregivers, families, and stroke survivors navigating similar paths.
